One of the things that iPhone has been missing for me is the ability to push my email to my device. For my business email I have a Google Apps account and it would be really useful to be able to get my emails pushed just as I already can for my calendar and contact entries. Well after a bit of a hiccup GPush is available from the Apps store to do exactly what it says on the tin and push Google mail to an iPhone.
GPush was supposed to be available about a week ago but problems with their servers put a temporary halt to downloads. That problem has now been rectified and GPush is once again available for a very reasonable 59p.
Once the app is installed there is very little to it. You simply enter the details of your Google Mail account (only one account at present), press the Submit Changes button, wait for a confirmation message and that’s it. By going to the usual notifications page you can choose how you want to be notified.
As you can see from the screenshot it works well, the notification arrives just a few seconds after an email lands in the account. However, I can’t help but feel that GPush only has a limited shelf life. How long can it be before Google themselves extend the calendar and contact push to include email too? In the meantime I’m happy to have GPush.
